There is a new font community in town: Fonts.xyz. It is brand-new and, yes, a dark mode is coming soon!

More font-related communities are a perfectly reasonable thing. I would still be curious to hear more of your objectives in creating it. Other than having a font ID section, what purpose(s) does it have that TypeDrawers lacks? How else are you thinking/hoping it will differ?5

TypeDrawers doesn't award points and reaction scores?0

TypeDrawers is primarily about type design and font production. Fonts.xyz seems to be more oriented towards typography in general.0

It would be interesting if Fonts.xyz focuses more in general public. Its font ID is already an invitation to this. Someone who just wants to know about what font to choose or combine may be scared by the technical level of TypeDrawers.2

Reflecting on the diverse platforms for discussing typefaces and fonts, I've found traditional forums often provide a more focused and engaging environment than broader social media platforms. Platforms like typo.social, for instance, held immense potential. However, the atmosphere has somewhat deviated from its initial promise, exhibiting a tendency towards formality and less inclusivity.Further, the content drift towards American politics and climate change has muddied the waters, causing the platform to increasingly resemble general social media feeds such as those on mastodon.social. The departure from the core subject-type, is disheartening. However, I'm optimistic about the emerging platform fonts.xyz. With its potential to gather a wide range of font enthusiasts, from novices to experts, it could develop into a go-to hub for us all. Its success, of course, is largely dependent on its user base. It's early days, and the platform's direction and popularity remain to be seen. Here's hoping it evolves into a thriving, vibrant community for our shared passion.0

Sorry for not clarifying earlier, but I did not make fonts.xyz; I merely joined it very early and asked if I could help spread it around. I do not know what &’s (the creator’s username) idea or motivation was.Thomas Phinney said:More font-related communities are a perfectly reasonable thing. They did warn us: dark mode is coming soon.5

Hoping .. If it could match the vibe like Glitch text generator. It really cool.-1

i think the website design is too much, and it distract me from seeing the typefaces presenting there.0

The site appears to be something completely different from the one the OP (Grant Bowers) announced three years ago, which was a new forum about fonts. This is some kind of font distribution platform and doesn’t appear to be made by the same person.0

It looks like the domain is owned by Luke Prowse (of nan.xyz), and has been since at least February of 2024, though it's unclear if the "&" who very briefly administrated that forum three years ago is Luke or if ownership of the domain was transferred. (Assuming there's not two typographers by the name Luke Prowse, they have an account here: @Luke Prowse -- but they haven't been particularly active it seems.)
EDIT: The @ seems to have not worked, but you can find the user by searching.0 -
I’m totally confused. This site looks more like a standard foundry website than anything else. Where’s the community exactly?
Edit: Oh, its a bumped thread… never mind.2 -

Hello all, Jérémy from NaN here. The first fonts.xyz, the forum, went offline and Luke, founder of NaN, indeed bought the domain name after that. Then at the end of last may we launched what you can see there, a font selling platform (not a foundry). But we want to be a community in the sense that we want to support the indie type scene by providing an easy and free way for foundries and designers to sell their fonts. Their is no entry cost and we take a relatively low percentage on the sales (20%). On top of that, 1% of all sales is shared among all designers. We are still at an early stage, slowly enrolling new foundries a few at a time. Hopefully you're hear about us again here.3

PS. the dev team has been @Johannes Neumeierand @Roel Nieskens who a lot of you might know from other projects.0

To add to this, just for clarity: We are actively inviting interested foundries and designers to join.Jérémy NaN said:We are still at an early stage, slowly enrolling new foundries a few at a time. Hopefully you're hear about us again here. There is a waitlist, but anybody interested can and should join, and especially if you have some kind of portfolio link for us to evaluate you will get access to the foundry builder backend. There it is easy to add your fonts, build custom family pages from our modules, and upon review, have your fonts published for selling. Or just have a look around and decide later. We are looking to make this a fair, easy and welcoming market place for everybody. More info also here.
At this stage we are asking foundry participants (and also the site users, of course) for feedback and are regularly rolling out updates to the backend and overall site experience, so as @Jérémy NaN pointed out: we are in an early stage

Always good to see a dedicated space for font enthusiasts .. typography communities are surprisingly underrepresented online. Looking forward to seeing what discussions come out of here.
For anyone who enjoys pushing text beyond traditional fonts, Glitch Text Generator is worth checking out .. completely different territory but same love for creative text.

It feels like this user is just here to make backlinks to their website for SEO...SmithJoys said:Always good to see a dedicated space for font enthusiasts .. typography communities are surprisingly underrepresented online. Looking forward to seeing what discussions come out of here.
