    More importantly, does it allow multiple answers?
    From Anatomy of Type (the one linked here), “bar” seems to be a generic name for a horizontal part of a letter. It could work well for r in Dax or Ubuntu, not sure if it would ring any bells at all with a Didone though.

    Before these posts appeared on this forum I called this part of the 'r' an arm and the point where it joins a shoulder.
    I will continue to call them that.
    I think most people with opinions here will continue to use the nomenclature that they are comfortable with, whatever the outcome of this thread.

    Internally it's indeed a non-issue.
    The issue is when you have to talk to other designers, especially when you're teaching, and don't want your students stuck on your personal communicative island... What I do with my students is tell them the term I think they should use (and sometimes why) but also what other designers might call it.
