Agreed. Just want to point that in exceptional cases the kerning can be part of the spacing. For example, I'm sometimes using a positive kerning pair between O's or o's.2 -

My personal preference is to place attributes like width and titling/text in the the familyname, and only the weight in the stylename. It tends to give less font naming headaches.2 -

It's convenient for users to have acces to the italic through a short cut. I use the cmd-shift-i a lot in InDesign for setting italics.2
