London bookshop Collinge & Clark has an archive of Stephenson Blake drawings and correspondence. I got a kick out of reading E.B. Hanson’s typewritten reactions to SB’s suggestions. Things moved slower back then.

    Socratic method?

I loved seeing this! Especially after working this afternoon to revise a type design based on feedback sent to me by a fellow designer in a list rather similar to this. A century later things aren't all that different (though our email exchanges never ended with "I remain, yours obediently")!

What strikes me is that in between the formal introduction and signing off, the points in between would not look out of place in any of the Critiques in here. Some things haven't changed, regardless of the topic (hand-drawn sketches vs. bézier curves) or medium (ink vs. electrons).
