Creating the Creative Brief

Greetings everyone.
Being familiar with writing creative briefs for graphic design jobs, I was wondering if writing a creative brief for creating a new typeface is done any differently. I’m asking this because a client for whom I do graphic design work wants me to draw a new typeface. In your experience, what questions should I included in the brief — concerning the esthetics of the typeface.

Well, there are a bunch of things to consider beyond the usual design brief questions. I wrote about some of them here:

Key font-specific questions to answer:- Replacing existing typeface? Why? Like/dislike?
- Purpose: what’s it for? (Function/content)
- Design category?
- Optimal Size Range?
- Media?
- # Styles?
- Character Set? (Language support and other)
- Typographic Extras?
