Nicole Dotin and I are excited to announce the next edition of Latin One, part of the Practica Program — now in its 6th year supporting type designers around the world.

What’s new this time?

Latin One is now offered in a hybrid format, combining pre-recorded lectures with live feedback sessions. This allows students to learn core concepts at their own pace while still receiving individualized guidance during live meetings. With this new format also comes a new, lower price.

Latin One: Mechanics

Where: Online (hybrid: pre-recorded lectures + live feedback)
Dates: Jan 21–March 4, 2026 (6 weeks)
Time: Wednesdays @ 10:30a Chicago (click to convert)

Latin One explores the craft and execution side of typeface design — from improving your Bézier drawing, to adding structure and methodology to spacing and proofing, to training your eye to make the many optical corrections that letters require.

Enrollment opens January 5.
👉 Full details, including tuition and syllabus
Scholarship applications are due January 4.

We will also be offering Latin Two: Expansion, our 15-week follow-up course where students develop their typefaces into multi-weight families using interpolation.

If you’re looking to strengthen your technique and deepen your practice, we’d be glad to have you join us.

Lead instructors Sol and Nicole will talk about a typical type design workflow — what happens when and why — from first sketches to final font generation. The goal is to spend more time on the fun parts (the design!) and less time fixing problems created by an inefficient process. Join us and get the vibe!
