How important are extremes in a semi complex outline font?

I'm currently making a "hand drawn" font with a semi complex outline.
Was wondering how important are extremes in a font like this?
Ideally I'd like to not have to use extremes to keep the node count down to a minimum as the scalability is important for this project and the font has to be performant across different low fi devices.

Also I'm using Glyphs and would just use the add extremes option if the juice is worth the squeeze for a font like this.

In your use case? Local extrema every time there is a change of direction are not very important.

I would not be surprised if there is a slight plus for those points that happen to be the X and Y extrema of the entire glyph to have points, for one or more of measurement/sidebearings/clipping sorts of reasons.
