Can I turn a custom font into menu-board letters?

Has anyone encountered a means by which a particular digital font could be used to make plastic (or other) letters, of the kind that get pressed into menu boards? Or any similar means of using custom letters from a font in physical and changeable signage?

You mean this sort of thing, yes?

I think you could use a 3D printer to make a set of custom letters. You would need access to one of the letters used with the target sign in order to be able to accurately reproduce the mounting parts on the back.

@mitradranirban That site seems only to produce flat-backed lettering.

Craig is looking for the kind of letters that have pins in the back that can be pushed into a mounting board.

I believe David Jonathan Ross worked with a company that sells such boards when he developed Daily Special: https://djr.com/notes/daily-special-font-of-the-month
But I’m not sure if that company actually produces such letters or only purveys them. Still, might provide a useful lead. 🤷‍♂️
