ATypI 90 in Oxford

Did anyone here attend this conference. I was there and have a question about a session. Who led the "Wine Label Typography" session. I missed that one because I went to the "Have a Beer with Ed Benguiat" session. He neveer turned up.

Whoops, they probably shouldn’t have scheduled the two alcohol-focused sessions against each other!  😂

After many complaints, they changed their name to AAtypI.
  • Tangential: I wish ATypI organizers would stop scheduling the conference in the same week as Unicode Technical Committee meetings.

As I meditate on this question, I seem to remember someone named Jeff Level. Does anyone recall someone with that name as it relates to the type business?

Yes, I remember Jeff Level from type conferences in the 1990s (although I probably couldn’t pick him out of a lineup). He was Californian, as I recall, and one of the editors of the Precision Type Font Reference Guide.
  • I was there. I was just getting ready to start at RIT and I think Dave Berlow mentioned the conference. I pulled the pieces together without a minute to spare and it was my first experience with other type people; people actually working in the field. Memories include noticing how very old some buildings at Oxford are, meeting amazing type people and some very nice new friends, and climbing up the side of the Hostel building late after some jolly type socialization, and sneaking in the window of my shared room. I think I might have my red ring-bound program from the event, and if I can ever figure out where that is stored, I'll report back.
