New Tiro Typeworks website and type releases

John Hudson

This morning, we finally hit the big red button and launched the website that we have been working on for, well, it feels like forever but records shown it is actually still less than a decade. Just.

Please visit and take a look around.

There’s an introductory article that gives an overview of the site, explains our font licensing/pricing model, and provides a bit of a hint about our content plans.

To coincide with the website launch, we’re publishing some new or extended typefaces:

• Laconia Cherokee is a brand new design, initiated by Ross Mills as an extension of his Laconia family, and completed by Paul Hanslow. It is available under our pay-what-you-want model for indigenous language fonts.
• Brill 5.00 is the latest version of the modern book type we created for the Dutch academic publisher Brill. The new version has been extended to support all the Cyrillic characters in Unicode, as well as some additional Latin and symbol characters. It is now available as a variable font for the first time.
• Ross Mill’s Euphemia typeface has undergone a thorough refresh and extension, and is now available as a variable font. The UCAS subset fonts for Canadian indigenous syllabic writing systems are available under our pay-what-you-want model.

Other new releases are nearing readiness and will follow in the coming weeks. There is a subscription field in the site footer if you would like to receive email announcements.

Looks great!
“Save 102%”—Does that mean you’ll pay ME to download them?

John Hudson

Hmm. Will check how our web developers is doing that math.

[The complete Brill pricing is peculiar, because v5.00 uses a variable build process that enables instantiation of Medium and Semibold fonts that didn’t previously exist, but I didn’t want to raise the total price over v4.00, so you get double the quantity of fonts for the same price.]

Beautifully done, John!
