Nicole Dotin and I are excited to announce the 6th edition of Latin Two, part of the Practica Program—a platform dedicated to advancing type design education.

Latin Two is a 16-week, live online course where students start with a typeface they’ve begun outside the program and expand it into a multi-weight family using interpolation. Along the way, we’ll cover techniques for refining your design process, creating harmonious weights, and crafting typefaces that are both functional and beautiful.

Classes are held live (Wednesdays and Thursdays @ 10:30a CT), but recordings are also available to accommodate varying schedules.

Here are the details:

  • Dates: Jan 15–May 7, 2025

    This appears to be quite different from typical Greek and Cyrillic how-to’s, that focus on the “correct” shape of letters and diacritics, rather than making glyphs that function harmoniously within a particular typeface concept. That’s made clear in the promotion, featuring a variety of “g”s—the letter which most flouts convention.

    If you'd like to learn more about the application process for Latin Two, Sol and I will be on Instagram Live next Monday to talk about it. The session will be short, because the application process is fairly simple.
