Heyo, type designer/programmer/animator here!
Melvian

First, I'd like to say thank you to everyone for making TypeDrawers what it is.
This place has so much valuable information. Especially about
on font engineering, which felt very mysterious to me.
Anyway, heyo! I'm Melvian.
I make characters (as fonts), characters (the silly cartoon kind), and software (sometimes for making characters (both kinds)).
I spent the first few years of my type design journey searching for whatever online resources I could find and what few books I have, making type without any real mentorship or critique. (I definitely don't recommend doing that.) This year, I've aimed to change that. I've already gotten a couple critiques on some of my projects and I've been relieved to find out that I can make typefaces of some quality, apparently. I still have a long way to go though.
I'm aiming to network with the larger type design community in general, which is one of the reasons I've joined TypeDrawers. I'm usually pretty bad at socializing, and I'm afraid I don't have much to say about type design given how significantly more experienced y'all are. But I'll give this forum a shot, and we'll see how it goes.
Also, I'm currently working towards releasing my first font. As you all are familiar with, preparing a font for retail is an insane amount of work, especially since I'm doing it all myself, on top of my plan to start my own foundry and build my own website.
If you're curious, here's what it looks like so far:
It also features alternates for programming (this is an older version):

I could spew more information about this typeface's origins, or the things I find most satisfying about type design, or what my future plans are, or what other families I'm working on. But this is already way longer than most introductions on here.
One last thing, I'm here for strictly talking about type design, and given the more professional nature of TypeDrawers I'm not going to bring my extreme silliness over here (I even made a profile pic just for TypeDrawers). But I'll leave you with one animated art piece that I think type nerds will have some appreciation for:

Welcome! I really like the typeface, well done.
Why not try some silliness once in a while, and see if it catches on?1 -
Thank you!
Hmmmm, if I really feel like the opportunity presents itself and I know I'm not going to alienate anyone (I'll never know), maybe. For my foundry website I'm going completely all in on it though.

I could spew more information about this typeface's origins
Would like to hear the story behind it.0 -
Thanks! I'm not really of the kind that likes to make fonts "friendly" by putting a lot of subtle curves and details, as those kinds of details don't make any sense at small text sizes. But I'm glad it comes across as friendly, that's what I had hoped.
I created this as the counterpart to my personal typeface Melvian Sans, which started in late 2022. I wanted a new typeface to set my whole site which was what Melvian Sans was created for, and given that I'm a programmer, I figured it made sense to create a monospaced version of it as well. It's quickly become my favorite typeface for command-line terminals and code editing. The Melvian fonts as a whole are exclusive and not publicly available for licensing, but I'm working to make Melvian Mono an exception, because other people seem to express interest in it and I actually haven't found much public use for it myself.
