Pricing a custom typeface family (3 styles) with a free for personal use licence

Hello!
I have to quote a custom typeface family (3 styles) with a free for personal use licence
What is your approach to this? Same quote as exclusive? Thanks in advance!

  • When you say “with a free for personal use license” I assume that means the license they will use to make it available to others. Correct? If the person commissioning it has all rights, then same as permanent exclusive license, for sure.

If you maintain some rights, it may depend on whether those rights, for this design, are worth much to you.

Further to what Thomas has written: the terms of the license to end users is secondary to ownership of the rights, and may not be relevant at all if all those rights are assigned to the client.

‘Free for personal use’ implies that there are uses that are not free, so what constitutes personal use and non-personal use needs to be defined, preferably in a way that unambiguously clear to the end user (which I can attest is not easy: I regularly get queries from users about particular use cases under no-fee non-commercial licenses).

Who will have the right to sell the licenses for non-personal use: you or the client?
