How to get started, Freelance Type Design?
With the current abundance of type design jobs, the other option is freelancing. I'm the main type person at a web agency where type projects are sorta rare. How do you know when to break out on your own? And if it feels like the right time, what are some necessary first steps? Lastly, any tips for being your own creative director/Quality Control?

Hi Tyler, get your portfolio out to the foundries and see what response you get. You can do this whilst still at the agency. You could do a gradual transition from agency to freelance by taking on jobs that you can do in your own time, until you have the confidence and work to leave.5

I found https://www.thesystemseminar.com/july4/IndependenceDay.pdf a useful guide to the wider context of this kind of question when I was a student
