Interesting! I wonder if this project is related to the Malayalam font project by C. V. Radhakrishnan, K. V. Rajeesh and K. H. Hussain (see https://youtu.be/LR4HhkhfNeg?feature=shared) ?

@Linus Romer , It is not related. That project is work in progress from what I understand. There is no font released. It uses fontforge to import outlines from an SVG generated from metapost.

My approach does not use fontforge. Metapost itself creates interpolatable glyphs having outlines with clean nodes.
