Open vacancy at READSEARCH (UH/PXL-MAD School of Arts, Hasselt, Belgium)

Description: 

We are looking for a junior font developer to join our team at READSEARCH (research group part of MAD-RESEARCH, Hasselt University/PXL-MAD School of Arts, Belgium) to work on the production of variable fonts out of the typefaces (Latin-script) that we are designing for research purposes. Teaching hours supervising MA projects in graphic design and typography might also be assigned if the candidate is interested.
  • In-house and remote 
  • 15 weeks duration* (covering a maternity leave) 
  • 50% - 80% (depending on addition —or not— of teaching assignment)
  • Starting date: end of November/beginning of December 2021
  • Ending date: mid-to-end of March 2022
  • 2 weeks of holidays during Christmas (27/12- 9/01) 
Requirements: 
  • You must be eligible to work in Belgium on a weekly basis with a frequency of, at least, one day per week. 
  • 2+ years of experience in type design and font production. 
  • Fluent in Glyphs app and variable fonts framework. 
  • Familiar with the OT font specification and font table structures. 
  • Experience with GITHUB libraries and basic programming with Python 

Additional Criteria: 

  • Team player/enjoy working as part of a team 
  • BA or MA in Type design or proof of background in typography and type design. 
  • Comfortable delivering your work within the formal structure of a project 
  • Collaborative, proactive, and communicative attitude 
  • Experience animating variable fonts using Python and Drawbot
