Thoughts on Glyphs font editor?

A Typecon workshop would be great. I can’t be there but I could assist in preparing it.0

Thanks mekkablue. That's half the battle solved. It would also be useful to be able to copy fontwide vertical metric settings from one layer to another.0

@GeorgS
I decided to give it a go. Do I get a confirmation (serial number or link), now that I've paid for it through paypal?0 -
Thanks for sharing your scripts, Rainer.0

Dunwich Type maybe? ;-)0

Is it possible to organize a workshop (it there some time and a room)? I will most certainly find someone how can give the workshop.0

If you want to run a Glyphs workshop you need to contact the SoTA board.

Although it may be to late to work in something this year:

I got positive response from the Typecon people. So the workshop will happen.5

I am not any good on scripting and the more technical stuff, and I have been out of Fontlab so long now that I would have to re-learn much of it (cataract surgery, both eyes, last year), should I switch to Glyphs, you think?0

@paragraph: I switched to Glyphs because a lot of the scripts I had written for Fontlab are not needed in Glyphs. And that's because the Fontlab problems that the scripts had addressed do not occur in Glyphs in the first place. I find that many solutions in Glyphs feel like ‘oh, that's how it should be implemented’. The way components and Multiple Masters are done saves you so much time.
@JMontalbano: I teach type design to seventeen-year-olds and I use Glyphs for that. I'll be happy to help out if you have problems/questions. Georg offers semester licenses and student conditions.0 -
Thanks, both of you. Just bought it, looks great!0

James (Dunwich_Type), would it be useful posting a list here what other bits people use/need with Glyphs? For example, do I still need AFDK autohint and related scripts?0
-
What users do and don’t need is very dependent on their workflows. For example, most people I talk to have never used any part of the FDK beyond the autohinter, so if they move to Glyphs, they can just stop installing it.1

@paragraph:
Python Scripts:
https://github.com/mekkablue/Glyphs-Scripts (by me)
https://github.com/schriftgestalt/Glyphs-Scripts (by Georg, includes a FL script that exports Glyphs file)
Tim’s Remix Tools:
http://remix-tools.com/glyphsapp
(can't live without Harmonizer anymore, currently a free beta)
Yanone’s Speedpunk:
http://yanone.de/typedesign/code/speedpunk/
Not released yet, so stay tuned. If you meet him in person, you can buy a beta CD-ROM.2 -
@paragraph the adobe autohinter is already build in. So you do not need that anymore.1

since two days ago, it also includes a script that read .glyphs file in FontLab. Please give it a try and file bug reports.
It supports MultipleMaster, Kerning, Features, Hinting and tries to decompose nested component.2 -
Thanks, this is fantastic stuff. Goodonya, guys.0
