    Also, many of the established foundries will give permission to use their EULA if asked, so long as you understand that it's yours when you put your letterhead on it and so not our responsibility.

    But, I didn't get the impression that @craig.rozynski had this idea because he didn't want to do the work of writing the EULA.  I read the question as coming from a principled place that is somewhere between wanting to give the work away a la libre and being passionate about licensing terms. I think it's a good impulse though unfortunately not a very practical one.

    The problem is, he does want some restrictions. Specifically: “At checkout it simply states the purchase is subject to the condition the font can not be resold or distributed.”

    As soon as you go that far, you need to specify what counts as distribution. Does that mean they can’t embed the font in a PDF and send that PDF to people? Can they use it as a web font? (Which means it gets downloaded by the browser of everybody who visits the web page.)

    Just more reasons why an actual license is needed. Maybe it is shorter than most, but still… more than one sentence.  :neutral:
