Anyone have experience with font rendering in JavaFX??

The developers here have chosen to use JavaFX as part of a product UI update. The problem is that the font rendering is... weird and awful. Our software is almost entirely text based communication software, so you can imagine that I'm not happy.
The only thing I've been able to find is this post on StackOverflow (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/30431591/how-to-get-swing-looking-font-rendering-in-javafx/34923395) where a developer rants about the poor rendering quality vs. a different Java library (Java Swing) in Linux.
Does anyone have any experience with font rendering issues in JavaFX / Java Swing or Java?
Thnaks!!
