Looking to Recreate Font

One of my clients had a custom font created for them based on Avenir. They are no longer in contact with the company that created it so they want to recreate it in order to use it on Canva. Currently, it's not being validated.

Your client will have to talk to the people that hold the rights to Avenir. Monotype, probably.

It could be the case that the font was made to look similar to Avenir but without using any of its digital data. If this is the case, other designers or companies could take the assignment.

It depends on what that "based on" means exactly...

Also, if they own it, why not "recreate" it by importing the existing version into an editor? And what does "not being validated" mean?

I had problems with a custom job being used in Canva. I tried just about everything to get it validated, and I now know the trick to it. Get in touch if you need help with that and/or the custom font job itself.

I was curious about this, so I searched. After finding Canva support, I went to the main Canva web site.

Canva is a web-based desktop publishing service. You download their software for free, but to print something, you spend money to place an order with them, and it's printed on their printers and then mailed to you.

And you need to upload the fonts you will use, and they get "validated" to ensure you're not doing anything to get them in trouble with respect to the license conditions of the font.
