How to add a glyph, insert a component and mirror it into a variable font with fonttools?

Hi,
please, I need to duplicate all glyphs in a font as mirrored components with fonttools. I have been going around the internet but it's hard to find a place where to start from so I kindly ask here. I just need the first hint and I hope to catch fast!

my quenstion is, how do I add a glyph into a glyph set? I couldn't find it really
and how do I add the component there? I saw that it might something to do with that AbstractPen.addComponent?
