    My guess: slightly off-kilter “modernist” type and a sense of exclusivity (not widely available) are hot with young designers right now. Aperçu has both of these qualities.

    It’s well-marketed, a somewhat interesting concept, and a subtly distinctive design.
    Its success depends on all these factors working together.
    They may be other things -- contacts and circumstances -- that we don’t know about.
    And always chance.
