http:// is a big problem

Personally, I don't care if a URL is displayed with http:// https:// but this is a thread about that subject. Discuss here rather than in the middle of threads about other topics.

Personally I value the transparency and convenience of visible URLs. Formally ugly can be functionally beautiful.

Personally, I do care about, and like it, when sites I often use are displayed with https:// instead of http:// - because its important to know that the site you think you are visiting is really the site you intend.
I think https://letsencrypt.org has done an amazing thing in the last few years to address this, generally, and I encourage anyone with their own websites to look into setting up HTTPS.
But, since this forum is hosted on http://vanillaforums.com and inherited an older (much much cheaper) payment plan that doesn't offer HTTPS, and moving off the inherited plan would likely make the forum uneconomical to run, it seems that TD will remain on HTTP-only for the foreseeable future. And that's OK, because its not used for anything too important
Just make sure your login password is unique to this forum, and assume that criminals can easily access that password if you are unlucky (a typical scenario is when you do anything on HTTP sites while using an open wifi network (cafes, airports, etc), everyone else can capture all the data on that wifi network, including your login.)8 -

I think that's a reasonable POV, but isn't it unrelated to whether the URL (visible or not) is http or https? Or am I missing something?0 -
@Thomas Phinney I think I was missing something...0

I just looked. The original comment about posting naked URLs did not distinguish between HTTP:// vs HTTPS://.1
