on horizontal weight growth

Hej everybody,
Somewhere — guess it was a Frutiger book — I came across the method of:
While gaining weight, the distance from inner counter to outer stem in remaining constant. (visualisation in image below)
But I have no clue where I came across that method …
Can you help my memory?

Maybe in The Modification of Letterforms by Hess? I don’t have time to look it up right now, but it might be in there.1

Univers works this way — there's an illustration of it in the Frutiger Complete Works.

@James Puckett: Nope, not Hess.0

@Austin Stahl nailed it: Adrian Frutiger‘s "Typefaces: The Complete Works" on page 93 was what I had in mind.

Understand that just because it works for Univers, does not mean it is an absolute for whatever you may be using it for.0

@Chris Lozos of course it is not. But that method works quite well for a specific typeface of mine.
Some preview above and on dribble. https://dribbble.com/jakob_runge/buckets/391103-Harrison-Serif
