Decimal Point

Just curious if there exists or maybe should exist a unicode based character for a decimal point used in place of a period. Since I design mostly script fonts as opposed to text fonts I usually keep numeric and monetary work fairly simple. I often find myself doing a lot of kerning with periods for decimal points and monetary functions. Seems like if there were a separate decimal point that linked to a period similar to how smart quotes work in many apps to replace hash marks that might be useful.
I have used a specially made "comma.numerator" for larger fractions. Would it make just as much sense to make a glyph like "period.decimal" and just link it as a contextual sub for the period?

It seems to me that the contextual substitution would be perfect for this.1
