My new favorite test word

  • It has a nice ring to it :-) but it has the same problem as "adhesion": no descender.

Adhesion has very good uses for early phases of design when you are working with what I call "benign" glyphs--glyphs that rarely require kerning but demonstrate the core spacing intent in the font. You set the color and rhythm and play with what the target reading size might be without the added chore of kerning. It is good to have several test words for different phases of design.  Perhaps there are some marvelous Czech words that could suffice for later in the process?

That is a bit Soupy, James ;-)

  • My favorite for testing heavy scripts has been 'bananarama', along with the classic 'minimum'.

Minimum is a good one.  I suppose all of the "a" glyphs in scripts show a different need and a classic connecting issue.
