Are there any good books about the Didots and their work? All I’ve accquired is The Didot Family and the Progress of Printing, which is just a chapbook with limited information and no images. There’s a French book, LES DIDOT. : Trois siècles de typographie et de bibliophilie 1698-1998, but I’ve never found any reviews and the Google books results are too limited to get anything.

James, if you search the the Bibliothèque Nationale digital documents library, Gallica, you'll find nearly two hundred items related to the Didots, including many entire books and manuscripts. You'll also find links to other digital collections. Most are well scanned and all are downloadable. http://gallica.bnf.fr/2

You could look for this book:
Pierre Didot the Elder and French Book Illustration, 1789-1822 / Carol Margot Osborne
and this article:
Unger, Gerard. “The Types of François-Ambroise Didot and Pierre-Louis Vafflard: A Further Investigation Into the Origins of the Didones.” Quaerendo 31, no. 3 (2001): 165–191.

Sébastien Morlighem's Reading thesis from a couple of years ago covers the Didot family well too.0
