Adobe apps, missing glyphs, switching fonts

Does anybody know why Adobe software sometimes encounters a missing glyph and changes to a different font rather than displaying notdef? I remember we worked this out years ago on Typophile.

Nevermind, I figured it out. This is the “Missing Glyph Protection” option under “Advanced Type”.3
