You might want to check out Scanhand. It is best for detached letters but if you include the in and out strokes in each letter they can be edited in a font editor later.1 -

If you include different variations as stylistic alternatives then 99.9% of users will not use these, most users aren't even aware that open type features actually exist. :(2 -
