This copy in one of 300 to include a loosely inserted duotone reproduction of Simon Stephenson's broadside type specimen sheet of 1790. Long thought to be one person, Richard Austin turns out to be a father and son; this book includes biographies of the Austin family and a bibliography of 130 titles illustrated by the Austins with wood engravings. Also included are reproductions of the complete Imperial Letter-Foundry specimen as well as pages from Wilson & Miller showing the Scotch Types and the Porson Greek types of Cambridge.?.

Small Square 8vo. Divides the trades into different categories: "Arts Relative to the Supply of Food" (The Grain Farmer, The Miller, The Baker, The Confectioner, The Brewer, etc.), "Arts Relative to Providing Shelter" (The Mason, Woodcutter, Carpenter, Upholsterer, Architecture, etc.), "Arts Relative to Clothing" (The Wool-Spinner, Weaver, The Tailor, Furriery, Wig-Maker, etc.), "Arts Relative to Traveling" (The Saddler, The Farrier, The Wheelwright, Road-making, Navigation, Cooper, etc.), "Arts Relative to the Mineral Kingdom" (Mining, Gas Works, Welding, Coining, The Sculptor, Porcelain, etc.), "The Liberal Arts" (Engraving, Lithography, Paper-making, Type-Foundry, Printing, Bookbinding, The Bookseller, etc.). The final engraving, entitled "The Bill Sticker," shows the tradesman posting several bills, one of which is an advertisement for this book. Only four copies of this edition in NUC; none in BMC Contemporary powder blue linen, green pictorial paper label, yellow coated endpapers.
