Tagging usernames with a space in them

If I try to tag someone, say @James Puckett, I can only tag the part of the name before the space, can Vanilla do what Facebook does and tag names with spaces in them?

  Apparently not. I'd be happy if tagging were just disabled.

  Why? Is it not helpful to notify people if you are directing a question or response to them?

  I don’t think this is something Vanilla can fix because it can’t distinguish between a space in the user name and a space intended to move on to the next word in a post.

  I like how FB implemented it though, where you select from a list of people whose name contains the characters you have typed.

  Facebook does some nice stuff. But they have a lot more money to work with than Vanilla.
