Tight font kerning on all pairs at once

Hi TypeDrawers, 
I am using FontLab and would like to know if there is a method to kern all letter combinations tightly, so that each letter is touching the next.

    I don't think there is a built-in method to do that.
    I recently had a project with that requirement and solved it by scripting some tools. Send me a message if you need a hand. :)

    This can be done for static fonts.

    But for variable fonts? Ouch. If you want it always exactly at the point of just touching… you would find this challenging to do truly perfectly for all normal glyph combinations in a typical variable font—and even more so if it has multiple axes and relatively sparse masters.

    I am thinking about combinations such as “fo” and “te” and “TO” where the bar is getting thicker in a linear fashion, but where it hits the curve of the next letter is going to vary non-linearly, because of the curved shape. (Not a problem for “TA” as a counterexample, with a neat diagonal on the “A”)
