I'm currently writing an article in Google Docs using Times New Roman. When I open the doc in Google Docs Android app, TNR is replaced by another font. I suppose it's a licensing issue. Am I right?

You are right, you see a font developed by Ascender Corp and updated by Monotype and libre licensed to Google as Tinos, that is metrics compatible with TNR, and also retailed as Ascender Serif (https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/8078/ascender-serif) and libre licensed by Red Hat as Liberation Serif.0

On my Android phone, the font you're talking about looks very ugly, it doesn't even have a real italic.0
