... Berthold, The Font Bureau collection, FontWorks ...I'm starting to worry, which means it's time for a joke

Don't forget about Font Font as well. None of the type people are in charge, only venture capitalists are at the helm.

Linotype, ITC, Bitstream, URW, Ascender, FontFont, Hoefler, Berthold, Font Bureau, FontWorks…The only type studios surviving in a near future will be these too small to interest Monotype. Yes, there should be some who said NO to Monotype, but I'm not aware of which ones.Morisawa, which seems too big to be purchased, also should survive —I hope.3

            Adobe will then gobble Monotype.1

I would imagine that Adobe attempting to acquire Monotype would raise antitrust concerns.2

I doubt Adobe acquiring monotype would raise antitrust concerns since fonts are considered peripheral to their business. That said, I can't imagine they would want to. They don't seem to want to be in the font licensing business, they use Monotype to license their own fonts for the kinds of uses they can't permit on their cloud platform.5

Fonts are peripheral to Adobe’s business, but not to Monotype’s!
That said, entirely possible Monotype is (and fonts in general are) just too small a business for the gov’t to care.0 -
FWIW, Font Bureau is still operating independently, it just sold (all? the majority? not sure) of its "classic" retail library.0

I know of one who said no to Monopolytype.0

— So you kept your car?— Yes, I sold only the engine and the tires.1 -
On brand, what a whale indeed…
