Large specimen book storage

How does everyone store their thick specimen books? My 1923 ATF specimen book is a bit worse for wear so I've always stored it laying flat instead of upright. It's nearly 100 years old, so it stands to reason it shouldn't be spectacular, but I sure hope it'll last another 100 or so.

I keep most of them upright but I arrange them so they’re packing tight and the bindings don’t sag. If the bindings are sagging or otherwise damaged they get stored flat.3

I store them upright and tight like James. And I still worry that maybe it is a mistake!0
