Non-printing thin strokes

Hi,
I'm a bit confused about how thin I can make strokes in my glyphs so that they print. If you look at the attached,
you'll see the left (Baskerville Old Face) clearly has thinner horizontals than my design on the right.
When I print a block of text in Baskerville at, say 10pt, the thins show up. However, when I print the same document using my typeface (at the same size), the horizontals don't appear! What are some fundamentals to know regarding this topic?

    Not yet. I thought that would only affect the screen quality. Does hinting change the print output, too?

    It does at text sizes. And cheap Winprinters tend to misinterpret automatic hinting generated by Fontlab. So if you are using Fontlab and haven’t disabled auto-hint on export that might be causing the problem.
