Is this still required? Seems like an old long ago thing . . .

Has someone written a script that can decompose, remove overlaps, and set path direction 100% reliably?0

Decompiling? Do you mean decomposing composites? I saw something recently saying it was no longer necessary to decompose composite glyphs in OT PS fonts. Can't remember where. Definitely need to remove overlaps, which would apply to composites as well I presume.0

Yes, decomposing composite glyphs . . . I didn't know if an 'official' word came down from on high but this is what I was curious about.0

I think it was someone from Adobe who said it (or rather wrote it). Wish I could remember where I saw it.0

I always do it, because strange things sometimes happen when overlaps are removed, which might occur later on.0

There's a preference setting that will do this automatically when you generate:
FL preferences > Generating OpenType & TrueType > OpenType PS (.otf) > Decompose all composites0 -
The user and all related content has been deleted.0

I have a little FontLab action set for OT-PS that removes all hints, decomposes all composites, and auto-hints. I run it on a temporary file as part of font generation.0
