In monoid (monospaced coding font) I'm using calt for ligatures because I wanted the font to be "true" monospace (every character has the same width) and because calt is better supported by code editors.
I'm also using calt for class based contextual positioning in an effort to iron out some inevitable spacing errors in a monospaced font.

It's a bit of a different animal than regular kerning, if the monospace advance width is always preserved, I suppose.0

@Craig Eliason indeed - I couldn't use "normal" kerning because it had to remain mono spaced0

Afaict (I have not tried such a thing), you can use a contextual positioning lookup in the `kern` feature.0

This isn't a particularity sexy use of OT features, but it's kind of fun, just a little bit dramatic and a somewhat perplexing use of discretionary ligatures:
