The buggy WYSIWYG editor is gone.

The complex WYSIWYG editor that we were using proved to have some really serious bugs. When I posted about it on the support forum the Vanilla staff recommended disabling it in favor of a simpler plugin. I took the advice and made the switch. Please let me know if you still have problems.

should we cite comments using italic
    or using block quotes?
the icons on the format bar suggest we should use block quotes

(i also tried the C icon, which apparently is for code)

Not to be completely anal retentive, but the padding on the block quotes and the padding on the code styles should match.

I can't seem to post from my iPad anymore. Pretty sure I could before.

Try logging in again. The login cookie is domain-specific and you may just need to update it. If not add a post in Bug Reports and I will point the Vanilla support team at it.

You should of course use the proper semantic element. And if the visual styling that is applied to that element should be italic, then this a CSS issue that the site admin needs to take care of, and not a markup issue that the author has to deal with. In my opinion, italics in 13px almost always look suboptimal.

I don’t really care. And if Joe Clark complains I’ll ban his ass.

Not necessarily. There are some times when you might want to throw <a chunk of code> inline with some normal text. In those cases, it's better to keep the padding to a minimum.

    Can you
    cite something
    inline?

    Edit:
    Nope
