Hello all!
We've had incredible feedback about the talks that Ben and Tom from Asenda Law gave at the Font Business and Fonts and AI conferences we hosted last year. So we've asked Tom to give a seminar to foundries specifically on how to protect their business by bulletproofing their EULAs.

Here's more info:

Foundries often fall at the final hurdle. They have incredible fonts but poorly drafted EULAs, exposing their fonts to infringement and limiting revenue.

Join IP and commercial lawyer Tom Broster of Asenda Law and Nadine (of I Love Typography) for a focused, practical session built specifically for font foundries that are serious about protecting what is theirs.

Tom will arm you with the knowledge to transform your EULA from a formality into a real legal shield. You’ll discover which key clauses separate a strong license from a weak one, why your terms might not actually bind your customers — and how to avoid that problem, exactly where your tick boxes need to be to hold up when it counts, how to structure your agreements so unauthorized uses become easier to enforce, smart strategies for navigating the minefield of selling across jurisdictions where fonts are treated very differently, and what the rise of AI means for your licences — and the steps you should be taking now.

Whether you’re launching your first foundry or have been in the game for years, this session will change how you think about your font licensing.

Seminar is on the 21st and you can sign up here:

https://academy.ilovetypography.com/bulletproof-your-font-licences/

Thanks,

Nadine

... is alive: tourdefonts.com

I decided to replace old website based on Wordpress which was the result of limited budget and a lot of compromise with a new one. Finally I managed to pack it with some features that should be useful to visitors and customers. The idea of general layout was to be simple, no bragging with cool design ideas and solutions, just fully functional website for average visitor.

So, what' new?

– instant downloads (no more waiting to approve each order manually);
– free trials (you get download link with an email);
– student discounts;
– Project Tailor (recommends you the right font for your project);
– License Wizard (very simple and basic helper for those who are not familiar with licenses);
– compare fonts (3 selected max);
– Pairing (newspaper layout page with option to pair different fonts for different layout sections);
– 3 different font catalog views: grid, list and names;
– photo and vector mock ups;
...

These are all nothing new on the market, but for me it's a big step upfront and it was a big experience. The biggest challenge was how to display ~150 font families on simple and effective way. That's why I decided to have 3 view modes, even I'm aware that most of the visitors will use default one (grid) mostly, but I wanted to offer diversity for everyone.

It was a big task in any way: logically, organizationally, with resources, time, solutions... It might still contain some minor bugs also.

Thanks.

Studio DRAMA is looking for a Creative Type Director, a creative leader responsible for directing and shaping custom type projects for some of the world’s most recognisable brands.

At Studio DRAMA, we combine the strategic thinking of a branding agency with the craft and rigour of a type foundry. We create custom typefaces that sit at the heart of brand identities, working closely with agencies and in-house teams globally. This role sits at that intersection: creative direction, typographic expertise, and brand thinking.

As Creative Type Director, you’ll lead the creative direction of custom type projects, guiding our type designers from brief through to delivery. You’ll interrogate briefs, define typographic direction, shape narratives, and ensure work is delivered efficiently and to a high creative standard. While this is a senior, directorial role, it remains conceptually hands-on. You’ll be close to the work, shaping ideas, reviewing design decisions, and, where useful, sketching to explore or communicate direction.

This role could suit an experienced type designer moving into a more directorial position, or a senior brand designer with strong typographic instincts and experience designing or directing custom and retail typefaces. The emphasis of this role is on judgement, leadership, and clarity of direction, with technical font production skills seen as a valuable bonus rather than a strict requirement.

---

Key Responsibilities

Creative Direction & Type Leadership

- Lead the creative direction of custom type projects from initial brief through to final delivery.

- Art direct and mentor type designers, providing clear, constructive feedback and direction.

- Interrogate briefs and translate brand strategy into distinctive, credible typographic concepts.

- Set creative standards and ensure consistency and quality across projects.

---

Concept Development & Typographic Thinking

- Shape early-stage concepts and define typographic direction before production begins.

- Use sketching, references, and visual exploration to communicate ideas and guide the team.

- Review and refine work throughout the process, ensuring ideas remain strong as they develop.

- Apply and test type concepts in brand contexts to ensure they work in the real world.

---

Client Engagement & Presentations

- Design and shape client-facing decks that clearly communicate typographic ideas and rationale.

- Lead presentations and creative conversations with clients and partner agencies.

- Confidently articulate and defend creative decisions, balancing craft, brand, and practical constraints.

- Build strong, trusted relationships through clear communication and thoughtful leadership.

---

Project Collaboration & Delivery

- Work closely with the project manager to manage timelines, priorities, and delivery across multiple projects.

- Help ensure work moves through the studio efficiently without compromising quality.

- Support smooth collaboration between creative, type, and production disciplines.

---

Thought Leadership, Advocacy & Studio Presence

- Act as a visible advocate for Studio DRAMA’s approach to typography, representing the studio through talks, panels, workshops, and industry events.

- Contribute to thought leadership around type, branding, and custom typography, helping shape Studio DRAMA’s voice within the wider design and type community.

- Support marketing and communications efforts by contributing ideas, perspectives, and content, in collaboration with the studio team.

- Stay actively engaged in contemporary type design discourse, bringing insights, references, and emerging conversations back into the studio.

---

Salary & Benefits

Salary: £45K–£55k (dependent on experience)

Location: London

Full-time, Permanent

Career progression opportunities

Access to industry events, workshops, and conferences

Regular studio outings and creative sessions

Flexible working arrangements (Hybrid – 4 days in-studio, 1 day remote)

Healthcare provided

28 day Paid holiday allowance.

Travel opportunities

Be part of a small, ambitious studio making a big impact in type & branding

How to apply

jobs@studio-drama.com

I’ve been working on this project for a couple of months now as a solo founder. I built this website to help designers save time by providing an all-in-one typography toolkit. We are basically a font directory but with many free built in tools.

With the Font Comparison tool, you can upload local files or choose from our directory that includes Google Fonts and more. You can compare up to 10 fonts at once. Our Font Pairing tool allows you to compare up to four pairings with the same robust features. Additionally, we have a Mockup Generator where you can instantly test fonts on t-shirts, tote bags, billboards, and coffee mugs—and export the results!

I wanted to build a free system to help designers like myself. We live in an era where every tool seems to require a monthly fee, and I wanted to offer an alternative. I hope you guys like it! Please let me know how I can improve.

You can try it on: https://www.findfont.co/

Books, magazines and newspapers (The Globe and Mail, of course) provide “fonts in use,” and there are even some costumes with font fabric.

Poster design by Henk van Assen, using the Figgins Sans typeface.

I am looking for help for a font project. I have developed some masters in parallel, now I have font source files that need to be merged into single files for further development. Those fonts I start with cover Mac OS Roman encoding.

Example: First file has regular glyphs and numbers, second file has four alternate glyphs and Old style Figure designs (in the main numbers slots). Those two sources should become just one, the 10-14 additional glyphs (in font "B" marked with color) with all their kerning, prepared with correct suffixes (.alt, .osf) to be used with OpenType features in the end. This procedure for 4x two source files: The upright designs in Light and Bold and the italic designs in Light and Bold.

My source files are .vfc (could be saved to a format of your preference) and should result in a format I can further work with in Fontlab.

I was eager to look into scripting, I did read interesting threads here on TD. I did exercises with DrawBot. But honestly, scripting exceeds my capabilities. I would be thankful to find a professional among you who could help me with this.

The amount of work seems manageable, it is probably rather you are doing me a favour. If you are interested please send me a note with how I could compensate you for your work. Thank you!

Besides French art nouveau design, other influences include biomorphic Surrealist art, Isamu Noguchi sculpture and furniture, and 60s psychedelia like light shows and Lava Lamps.

Though its blobs seem casual, I was careful to arrange the weight to boost letter coherence, resemble familiar patterns, and even out the color. So the compromises required of the forms are minimized, but it still evokes simpler technological displays

This is particularly novel: while the upright is built on a rectilinear grid, the italic is built on a hexagonal grid.

In addition to the circular dots of the standard fonts, there are also "tile" cuts which have square or hexagonal elements instead.
